DARTMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL

Important Message for Parents/Guardians of Grade 12 Students

Parents/Guardians of Grade 12 Students:

• Touching base as we approach the end of the school year with a few things to communicate. Thanks in advance for your time and attention.  First of all, we kindly ask that parents/guardians check academic progress and attendance on PowerSchool and have conversations as necessary to ensure your potential graduate stay on track.  Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

• A reminder to encourage your child to check out and apply for scholarship/bursary possibilities listed on the Student Services website.  Also, we need to have a copy of the scholarship/bursary offer letter if the grad/parents would like to have it announce when the graduate walks across the stage.

• The traditional Goodbye Grad assembly is scheduled for the afternoon of June 17th!  We would like to call June 17th a day as we have reserved the morning for a special field trip to Hatfield Farm Cowboy Adventure for the graduating class.  This is an optional activity, but it is a great opportunity to bring our grade 12s together off site to celebrate their success and make some memories with fellow graduates having navigated their way through high school together over the course of the pandemic.   Students seemed excited about this prospect last week when it was first announced. The school will pay the transportation costs to get students to Hatfield Farm and back.

• Students are required to pay their own admission cost ($25) to access Hatfield Farm.  The admission fee of $25 includes a horse drawn wagon ride or sleigh ride to Fort Clayton (a private wooded area of the farm), access to the mechanical bull or rubber rodeo, inflatable games, i.e. four person joust, box & bounce as well as a bouncy castle, zip lines, mini golf and a visit to the petting zoo.  Lunch is either 3 slices of pizza or 2 hotdogs and fries with unlimited refreshments of soda pop, orange juice, water coffee or tea.

• To determine interest and maintain our reservation date with Hatfield Farm, we need to collect the admission fee right away as a deposit is requested by Hatfield Farm.  We also need to reserve the buses depending on number of students interested.  To this end, students are asked to pay the $25 by Wednesday, May 18.   As long as there is adequate interest for this field trip, Hatfield Farm has promised to host and entertain us, rain or shine.

• We announced to the student body last week that graduates are responsible to purchase their own graduation attire package which consists of a Gown, V-stole, Cap and the 2022 insignia for a cost of $25 which includes HST and shipping.  The payment deadline is set for May 27, 2022.  Ms. Scott will accept payment in the main office and a receipt is issued. If this deadline presents some challenges, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the administrative team.  The order is due to arrive early June.   Unfortunately, we have had to go with a different V-stole due to production costs.   A few extra V-stoles were ordered for purchase for graduates who already own a gown.

• Parents responsible for the 2022 Community Prom are holding a student dance on May 13 at Mic Mac Boat Club.  It is open first to grade 12s and then the other grades depending on if there is room.  This is an opportunity for grads to enjoy a dance and socialize with their peers as they have not had a normal high school experience.  We thank Ms. Nadine Grimm and her team for the time and commitment they put into setting up this up for our students.

• For questions regarding the Community Prom, please contact, Ms. Nadine Grimm ngrimm1221@gmail.com.  Contact Ms. Abieyuwa  Abieyuwa.olowu@hrce.ca  in SchoolsPlus if Prom ticket purchase is an issue. There is a Facebook page with information updates about the Prom and on Student Council’s Instagram account.

• If there is any interest out there,  a few prom dresses were dropped off at the school.  Contact the main office on how to access these prom dresses.

• Another reminder that the Graduation Ceremony will take place at the Zatzman Sportsplex on June 29 at 9:00 a.m. We asked that students arrive between 8:00-8:15 a.m. to get organized for the grand entrance.  The school is covering the cost of the venue and associated costs, there will not be a Grad Fee this year.

• Finally, Graduation Rehearsal will take place on June 28 at 1 p.m. at the school. It is imperative that all graduates show up for this rehearsal. They are to report to the school gym at 12:45 p.m. sharp.

Thank you once again for your time and attention!

Sincerely yours,

Eartha Monard, Principal
